Armed positions pay more and demand more. Our armed security officer training in Manassas gives you the full Virginia DCJS path, about 50 hours across the core, arrest authority, and handgun courses, taught by certified firearms instructors. You leave trained, qualified, and ready to register.
What the training covers
The armed path combines three DCJS courses: the 01E core subjects, the 05E arrest authority module, and the 75E handgun course. We can also add the 08E shotgun module if your role calls for it. You will train on the law, judgment, and live handgun skills the state requires.
Prerequisites
You do not need prior certification to start, since the path includes the 01E core. You do need to meet Virginia’s legal requirements to possess and carry a firearm. We confirm eligibility with you before class.
Classroom and range
Armed training is part classroom and part range. You will qualify on the handgun under instructor supervision, so you leave with the hands-on competence the job requires, not just a passing grade.
What it costs and how long it takes
The full armed path runs about 50 hours.
From class to working armed
Completing the class is not the finish line. You also submit fingerprints, register with DCJS, and complete your firearms qualification on record. We walk you through each step so you can start work without delays.
Common questions
Do I need the 01E first?
No. The armed path includes the 01E core, so you can start here.
Does finishing the class let me work armed right away?
Not by itself. Your DCJS registration and firearms qualification must be on record first. We help you file.
Can I add shotgun?
Yes. The 08E shotgun module is available if your role needs it.
